Layer Work

Although this does not look like a real photo, it does help show how to use layers. To save this image from being a total disaster I will use a different flower.
If this was a flat image (e.g. all in one layer) I would have to go all the way back to square one however since the flowers are all on different layers I can just make them invisible and put in a new flower.
I am going to use this flower because it has a stalk at the bottom and I have all so used it before so I know it will work in my photo.

As you can see having a stalk makes a lot of difference. The next main hurdle is the color difference between the background and the rest of the image. To rectify this I used the color picker tool to get the color of the clouds, I had to make sure I had the right layer selected in the layer dialog, as I kept get the wrong color. I then made a new layer by clicking the new layer button, selecting foreground color (you could type in a Layer name) and clicking OK.

Once I did this the whole image changed colour, this is what I planed I just need to change the layer mode to overlay this will make it overlay all the layers beneath it. Do this by clicking the drop down arrow beside “Mode:” in the layers dialog.  While you’re there I would recommend that you have a play around with some of the other layer modes.

I then use the Fuzzy select tool to select the transparent area of the hill layer (make sure that that layer is selected) and then delete the top bit of the overlay layer.

Here you have it after just a bit of editing here is the final image.
